Coach of English Premier League side Arsenal, Arsene Wenger, revealed he was still in the market to sign an attacker and a defender, even as the season starts this weekend.
There are reports that the club is making a lot of efforts behind the scenes to add players to the squad after losing out in the last campaign due to lack of creative options.
Arsenal have been linked with Real Madrid star player Isco for a possible move this summer, after many other top targets slipped. Arsenal wanted Napoli’s Gonzalo Higuain despite failing to land the player in the past, but history repeated itself as the player moved to Italian giant Juventus. Former Juventus player Alvaro Morata returned to his parent club – Real Madrid after the activated their buy back clause. Riyad Mahrez of Leicester City is yet to make a move to the club, and his team mate Jamie Vardy extended his deal with the club, snubbing the Gunners.
Spanish publication AS claim the club is reporting that Serie A side AC Milan is set to battle the club for Isco, as they plan to use the €300m allocated to refurbish their squad. The report say the club is ready to splash up to €37m for the 24-year-old Spain international.
All the first team centre backs are injured. Defender Gabriel is sideline due to ankle injury especially after their last pre season game against City. Per Mertesacker is out until the next year and the coach has confirmed the absence of Laurent Koscielny when the season kicks off this weekend against Liverpool. The club would have to employ new signing Rob Holding and maybe Calum Chambers when they kickoff the new season. At the front, Arsenal is also competing with Liverpool, Spurs and Southampton for 18-year old Charlton striker, Ademola Lukman.
