MikelArteta signed a 1 year contract extension with the Premier League club Arsenal and this is a very surprising thing to have happened taking into consideration that the Spanish midfielder was on the verge of leaving the Emirates Stadium after only being able to make 7 Premier League appearances in the previous season.
Wenger told the Arsenal website: “He will stay with us for one more year because he has extended his contract. He’s one of the leaders in the club because he’s the captain of the team. I expect him to contribute much more than last season, but he also faces a battle. With the number of games we have ahead, we could use his experience, his desire and his quality as it will be vital for next season.”
One of the factors which limited the amount of performances that Arteta made in the previous campaign was injuries as he picked up a string of calf injuries which later turned into an ankle injury that had to be resolved through a surgery.
Fans of Arsenal are divided about this decision of extending Arteta’s contract for one more year as the supporters of the Premier League want to see Arsene Wenger adding new and younger players into the team instead of keeping hold some of their older performers who aren’t the same energetic and vibrant players that they used to be some time ago.
Time will tell if this was a good or a bad decision but Arteta is hoping that he does not have any further struggles with injuries after having been recovered from his recent physical conditions which has not made him able to compete at his best.
From the looks of it, Arsene Wenger has faith that Arteta can bounce back and come back into the pitch in full force.
